NETHERFIELD captain Ben Barrow believes it is now time for his side to kick-start their season having registered their first win of the campaign against Preston on Saturday afternoon.

“It was good to get the full 15 points,” said Barrow.

“We have had a couple of close draws but it was good to get over the line and kick the season off.”

Three bowlers – Nathan Chambers, Marc Hadwin and Harrison Cox – took three wickets apiece as Preston were all out for just 80 runs at Parkside Road, using up 30.4 overs to reach their total.

In their response, Netherfield needed just 12.1 overs to chase down their target and secure the win, losing two wickets in the process.

Barrow himself was the first to go when he was caught by Raghuram Surapaneni off the bowling of Rizwan Patel for four runs. Brad Earl was other man to go having made 21.

“We bowled okay I thought,” said Barrow.

“It’s always a tough game against Preston because you don’t know what you’re going to come up against on the day.

“For us, it was a case of doing everything positively and the bowlers put the ball in the right areas and it was good to see.

“We’ve had some tough fixtures early on, and some new players to fit into the team, but it is now time to kick on and hopefully go on a bit of a run like we did last season.”

This weekend, Netherfield travel to the Ernest Pass Memorial Ground to take on Barrow CC.

“Barrow will be a tough team to beat, especially at home, because they tend to bowl quite well with a couple of good seamers that they’ve got,” said the Netherfield skipper.

“Their batting pro is yet to really get off the mark as well so he will be hoping to post a big score, and it’s a Cumbrian derby and it’s always good to get one over a local team.”
