RISING table tennis star Jake Haygarth has been named in the England ranks for the new season.

The 12-year-old player from Tebay is among 33 selected for the 9-13 and Hopes Squad by Table Tennis England.

The squad is for the youngest athletes in the England set-up and they will attend regular training camps with the national coaches as they start on a pathway which leads to the England Youth Squad and ultimately to senior national recognition.

Haygarth was selected following an application process, after which players were invited to an assessment day at the University of Nottingham, where the squad will be based.
