Fylde Men’s 3s 1 – 1 Kendal Men’s 2s

Kendal 2s travelled to Fylde 3s for a difficult rearranged Sunday fixture.

The match started with Kendal on the front foot. The visitors were passing and moving well with Dan Stearn and Fraser Donaldson making strides on their respective wings.

A couple of early chances went begging, but the play was positive and Kendal were confident. Sure enough, the first goal came not long after for Nick Davis.

He picked up the ball from Steve Barclay’s pin-point pass, used his pace to ride a challenge and slammed the ball into the bottom corner.

The rest of the half was a fast affair as both young squads used their speed to attack and create chances at both ends.

Jared Elshaw was having a strong game in defence and repeatedly denied the Fylde forwards the ball.

The second half continued with quick, attacking hockey from both teams. Tyson Barclay and Andrew Melville worked tirelessly in midfield and covered every inch of the pitch.

Alex Tarney tied the opposition defence in knots as he twisted and turned his way toward the Fylde D. However, try as they might, Kendal could not find the net again.

The home keeper was in stunning form and made several saves that would have been applauded at any level of hockey. Unfortunately for The Greens and despite repeated quality defensive efforts from Ollie Hayton, Iain Donaldson and man of the match Phil Conlin, eventually the hosts found a way through.

Captain James Taylor was unlucky not to keep a clean sheet after stepping up to go in goal for his team.

There were lots of positives for Kendal to take from the match as this young, talented squad continues to improve
