Coaches at Netherfield CC on aiming to build on progress made last year to get women and girls cricket into a higher profile within the town and surrounding areas.

The Parkside Road outfit have had a number of girls join the junior section each year and they all progress to play in the boys team, but have never been able to get enough all together to create a girls or women's team.

Netherfield also had a large number of girls within the 75 five to eight-year-olds enjoying All Stars cricket last year in addition to 48 mostly adult women in the club's Prosecco Softball Festival last year.

And looking to build on those numbers, the club wants to invite people to free taster sessions at Kendal Leisure Centre.

The sessions start on March 7 and will last for four weeks.

The Thursday sessions are for eight to 13-year-olds between 5.45pm and 6.30pm and for over 14s between 6.30pm and 7.15pm.
