AMBLESIDE Hockey Club defeated Ulverston 1-0 in a hard-fought contest at Kirkbie Kendal School.
With the rain clouds gathering, Ambleside competed with and challenged Ulverston for the whole game.
The hosts dominated the Ulverston defence during the first half with Jess Young, Lucy Dixon and Rio Knowles creating problems for the visitors.
Maddie Townson, Polly Holden and Caroline Holden created opportunities and applied pressure on to the visitors.
Ambleside continued their dominance during the second half. However, visitors began to get into the game, forcing several penalty corners, but Ambleside’s defensive line of Val Richardson, Megan Carradus, Jill Richardson and Sheelagh Conlin cleared away the danger.
With time running out Ambleside sealed the win with just two minutes left on the clock after Jess Young smashed the ball into the goal from a penalty corner.
Ambleside travel to play Kirkby Stephen Ladies Seconds on Saturday.
