Kendal's Under 17 Colts agonisingly missed out on winning the league after losing 19-10 to Crewe and Nantwich at Mint Bridge.

The Under 17s, who needed the victory to secure the title, battled all the way before ultimately missing out against a resilient opponent.

Kendal made the best possible start and were 5-0 up within the first five minutes after Will Coxon went over the try line to score.

The Under 17s capitalised on an early knock from the visitors after some early Kendal pressure in their own half.

Both teams struggled for a while, making a number of unforced errors, with the weather proving to be an issue.

However, after an array of penalties Crewe gained the momentum and went over the try line before scoring the conversion to go 7-5 up.

Kendal were further behind when Crewe scored their second try, before both teams were reduced to 14 players for the final five minutes of the half.

The Under 17s battled and found a way back into the game after an unforced error saw Casey Morris go over the try line to leave Kendal two points behind at half time.

Kendal made a positive start to the second half and applied a lot of pressure on the Crewe defence with the wind behind them.

Kendal's forwards worked hard, while Will Coxon kicked long to touch while making bursting runs through the Crewe defence.

However, as the second half progressed Kendal struggled to break down the Crewe defence before giving a number of penalties away which worked in the visitors' favour.

Crewe sealed the win and ended Kendal's hopes of silverware after a Kendal pass was intercepted before the Crewe player went over and converted the try.

Kendal pushed for a way back in the closing stages but Crewe ran out victorious, winning 19-10

The Kendal lads threw everything they had at Crewe for the remainder of the half, but it just wasn’t to be. The Crewe defence stood strong.
