TWO South Lakes Judoka received prestigious awards from the British Judo council for their dedication and contribution to the sport.

John Barton and Nathan O'Sullivan were delighted to have been recognised for their achievements.

Nathan, who is 17 and comes from Burneside, received his outstanding achievement in contest which included his gold medal win in the 2018 national schools championships.

John, who has been a Judo coach for around 40 years, received his award for his recognition and achievement in contest Kata, which recently culminated in his students winning gold and silver medals at the BJA national kata championships and representing the UK at an international tournament in Brussels.

John has been coaching Nathan since he joined the club at the age of five, who also now also trains at Kendal dojo, and said he was really pleased that Nathan's efforts were recognised by this award.

"For a small self-funded club we have achieved many things," he said. "And the club has become successful because we have all devoted a lot of time and effort to what we do".
