FORMER Lancashire and England player Simon Kerrigan’s stunning all round display proved too much for Kendal who crashed to their first league defeat of the season against Fulwood & Broughton on Saturday.

Kerrigan’s undefeated ton guided the visitors to a competitive total of 198-6 before he completed an outstanding afternoon with a stunning return of 5-16 as the home side were dismissed for 142 in reply.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat and after Harry Lee saw off Jon Fenton, Mark and Matthew Smith put on 52 before home skipper Chris Miller regained some momentum for the Auld Greys when he trapped Matthew Smith lbw.

Pro Wes Marshall caught and bowled Mark Smith and though Kerrigan and Charlie Rossiter’s partnership of 56 revived F & B hopes, Richard Dakin stumped Rossiter off Marshall before Euan Fletcher was run out.

Miller then bowled Rob Dingle to reduce F & B to 135-6, but Kerrigan hauled his side back into it, ending on an unbeaten 100, which included 8 fours and 5 sixes, to ensure the visitors set a challenging victory target of 199.

Kendal’s run chase started well as Saeed Bariwala and Wes Marshall posted a first wicket stand of 37, but the joy was short lived after Kerrigan bowled Bariwala and Fenton claimed the prize wicket of Marshall who picked out Rob Dingle.

Dominic Jackson then trapped Dan Woods lbw before seeing off both Terry Hunte and Ben Phillips to rock the Auld Greys

Then Kerrigan ripped through Kendal’s lower order after he bowled Joseph Dodds before trapping Dakin and Miller.

Oliver Killiner battled to hold the fort but he departed for a steady 35 and Kerrigan wrapped things up by trapping Lee lbw.

Kendal host Barrow on Saturday before travelling to Fulwood & Broughton on Sunday in the T20 competition.
