VICTORIA A moved five points clear at the top of South Westmorland Senior League Division One after a crucial 5-3 victory over fellow title contenders Holme A on Monday afternoon.
Chris Wyatt claimed the best result for Victoria after he defeated Peter Sudworth 21-7, while the home team continued to pick up points when Terry Mercer battled past Alice Thomas 21-15 before Mick Simpson and Keith Atkinson saw off Steve Ashburn and Mike Fell 21-12.
Holme continued to stay in the game with the doubles partnership of Dave Mcroy and Ian Hayton seeing off Geoff Thompson and Keith Hartley 21-16, while Tom Baxter impressed winning 21-8 against Alan Medcalf.
However, it was not quite enough and Victoria held on to claim a vital win.
In the other games, defending Division One champions Netherfield A crashed to a 6-2 defeat at Levens A while Warton A defeated Subscription A 7-1.
Elsewhere, Netherfield B, Lindale A and Springfield A all picked up respective 6-2 wins over Windermere A, Silverdale A and Burneside A.
Carnforth A remain on top of Division Two after they picked up a decisive 7-1 victory at Crosthwaite A.
Abbot Hall remained the nearest challenges and show no signs of giving up the chase as they chalked up an emphatic 8-0 victory over Warton B.
Arnside A edged out Allithwaite A 5-3, Bolton Le Sands A defeated Heversham A 7-1 while both Kirkby Lonsdale A and Lower Holker A picked up respective 6-2 victories over Ingleborough A and Netherfield C.
In Division Three, Endmoor A and Sebdergh B both claimed respective 8-0 wins against Lindale B and Levens B, while Milnthorpe A edged out Abbot Hall B 5-3.
Carnforth B defeated Burneside B 6-2, while there was a 4-4 draw in the game between Bowness A and Hawkshead, and it also finished 4-4 in the clash between Burton in Lonsdale and Lower Holker B.
Springfield B, Subscription B, Ingleborough B and Windermere B all claimed important wins in Division Four while the stand out result in Division Five saw Subscription C chalk up a convincing 7-1 victory at Staveley B.
