AN IMPORTANT 5-3 victory against Springfield A saw Netherfield B strike a telling blow in the battle for supremacy in Division One of the South Westmorland Senior Bowling League.

In a tussle which went down to the last game, Springfield made an impressive start after Tom Davies defeated Ian Woof 21-16, while Clifford Park battled past Bryan Boardley 21-17.

However Netherfield remained in the game thanks to Harry Sharps impressive 21-11 win against Eddie Knowles, before the hosts had further reason to celebrate thanks to David Mitchell's 21-20 win against Ray Shannon.

In the doubles, Don Kennedy and Phil Cheeseman won 21-20 against Springfield's Helen Cross and Alan Tonge, while the visitors saw Audrey Shannon and Andrew Cross battle past Andy Yare and Ted Leather 21-19.

Elsewhere, Victoria A remain top of Division One after defeating Burneside A 6-2, Subscription A defeated Holme A 5-3, Warton A won 6-2 at Silverdale, Netherfield A defeated Windermere A 7-1 while Levens A saw off Lindale A 5-3.

Kirkby Lonsdale A went one point clear at the top of Division Two following an impressive 7-1 victory over Abbot Hall A.

Lower Holker A and Crosthwaite A both picked up respective 6-2 victories against Arnside A and Ingleborough A, Bolton Le Sands A defeated Allithwaite A 7-1 and Warton B routed Heversham A 8-0.

In Division Three, Endmoor A won 5-3 at Burton in Lonsdale , Carnforth B defeated Levens B 7-1 while Sedbergh B and Milnthorpe A claimed respective 6-2 wins against Bowness A and Lindale B.

Hawkshead won 7-1 at Abbot Hall B while Burneside B and Lower Holker B drew 4-4.

Windermere B, Springfield B, Holme B and Ingleborough B picked up important wins in Division Four, while in Division Five the stand out result saw Netherfield D win 5-3 at Sedbergh A.
