A HARD fought 6-4 win at Lindale A has secured the Kendal and District Bowling League Division One title for Holme A.

They had one hand on the trophy after victory at Victoria A last week, but only secured the title after a tough battle against a resilient Lindale outfit.

Matthew Stewart picked up the best result for Holme with his 21-9 victory against Bill Keating, while Liam Baxter, Dave Grisedale and Gavin Whitehead also picked up important points.

Baxter defeated Mark Heywood 21-15, Grisedale edged out Stephen Viney 21-20, while Whitehead battled past Mike Atkinson 21-14.

But Lindale were always in the game after Barbara Petit saw edged out Mark Ashburn 21-18.

Laraine Keating, Dave Nicholson and Audrey Sylvester also claimed important points for the hosts, but it was not quite enough to deny Holme.

Victoria A remain second after a hard fought 6-4 win at Holme B, while at the other end of the table Burneside A defeated third from bottom Staveley A 7-3 in a relegation dogfight.

Burton A remained second from bottom after losing 6-4 at Netherfield A, while Levens A and Hale A claimed respective 6-4 wins over Victoria B and Windermere A.

Division Two leaders Burton B and second placed Netherfield B both lost which means the battle for promotion will go to the last day.

Burton, who are on top by one point, suffered an 8-2 defeat at Ambleside A but Netherfield failed to take advantage as they lost 7-3 at Windermere B.

Elsewhere Levens B defeated Kirkby Lonsdale A 9-1, Abbot Hall A won 6-4 at Ambleside B, Allithwaite A saw off Crosthwaite A 7-3 while Netherfield C defeated Subscription A 8-2.

In Division Three, leaders Victoria C won 8-2 at Allithwaite C, Ingleborough A eased past Holme C 9-1.

Arnside A won 8-2 at Heversham A, Allithwaite B edged out Sedbergh A 6-4 while Lower Holker defeated Endmoor A.

The stand out game in Division Four saw Victoria D defeat Lower Holker B 8-2, Jim Thistlethwaite claimed the best result for the home team with a 21-13 win over John Parr, while Peter Hine also picked up a good result for Victoria with an impressive 21-14 win against Alan Cousins.

In the other games, Lindale B defeated Subscription B 8-2, while Bowness A, Burneside B, Hawkshead and Abbot Hall B claimed respective 7-3 wins over Netherfield D, Hale B, Arnside B and Langdale.

In Division Five, Levens C won 8-2 at Staveley B while in Division Six, Silverdale A defeated Ambleside C 7-3.
