Matches in the new county-wide Girls School Leagues got under way with fixtures taking place in Carlisle, Kendal and Cockermouth.

The competition has been organised by the Cumberland and Westmorland County FAs to give girls the opportunity to compete against schools at Under-14 and Under-6 level.

Each area of the county has had a central venue competition with results going towards the final date in February when the league leaders will be decided.

The teams at the top of the league in February will go on to play in the finals tournament between the winners of the Carlisle, South and West regional competitions. More than 250 girls have so far taken part in the competition in 27 teams across the two age groups.

The competition is still open to entrants from schools interested in taking part in February. For details, contact Helen Aitchison, Girls and Women's Football Development Officer on 01539 730946. Results and tables on: www.westmorlandfa.com
