IT was a disappointing result in the FA Cup, even more so because we looked the sharper side, played the better football and wanted the win more than Altrincham.

We did everything but score, but it's been an enjoyable first journey as a manager for me in the Cup and I would like to thank everyone who came to support us.

They did their bit and hopefully they will come back and support us again.

The Altrincham manager never spoke to me ahead of the tie and some of the comments at the dug-out throughout the game were out of order - so I told him at the end that I couldn't believe what big-time Charlies he and his players were and he took exception to it.

The Altrincham party went off without coming to the post-match buffet and after the hard work done by the ladies at the club that showed a lack of respect to them.

But the aim now is to put the match behind us and the priority is to get some league points on the board.

Before then we have two more cup matches and we go to Sheffield in the FA Trophy on Saturday. Sheffield are the oldest football club in the world and they will be playing Inter Milan in a special anniversary match after us - so I don't think many of their players will want to get injured and miss that one!

The lads tired against Gateshead in midweek after their cup exertions, but they are a very good side and a dodgy penalty did not help us.

We did not get hold of the ball but after a telling-off at half time we got the goal we deserved and then hit the crossbar three or four times.

Centre-half Tony Hallam was sent off after picking up two yellow cards when he got the ball in the tackle on both occasions. Players are starting to dive just to get people sent off and referees need to be able to see what is going on.

Our next home match on Tuesday evening sees us face Chorley in the Lancashire Cup and I feel that we can go on and win this competition, so I will be looking for a quality performance.
