FOLLOWING their summer success in Essex, Cumbria’s men’s tennis team travelled to Norfolk and repeated their winning streak at the LTA Singles and Doubles County Winter Cup competition held in Norwich

Once again the team, captained by Chris Whittle, chalked up victories against all three opposing teams.

The Cumbria team again included Kirkbie Kendal pupil Billy Blaydes, holder of both the Scottish Open 16U Championship and the National British 16U title, and his younger brother, Freddy, at 13 playing in his first Men’s Tennis competition.

The team’s decisive wins began with a 9-0 victory against Isle of Man, followed by an 8-1 win over Bedfordshire. They went on to build up an unassailable lead of 5-2 against Cornwall, with Freddy Blaydes and former Kendal based player, David Smith winning the final rubber

6-4 6-4.

An impressive result from Cumbria, earning the team promotion to a higher league.
