League leaders Kendal overcame a resilient Hull side in their toughest home match so far in North Division One.

The lead changed hand five times in a pulsating march watched by the largest crowd of they season so far at Mint Bridge.

There was an early scare for Kendal when fly-half Dan Stephens was knocked out during the first minute of they match, but he recovered to take the man of the match award by kicking five penalties and one conversion.

Stephens gave Kendal a 6-0 lead , but Hull hit back with a penalty and a well worked try by their inventive backs to lead 10-6.

Immediately Kendal replied with captain Ian Voortman touching down in the corner and Stephens then put over another penalty to give Kendal a 14-10 half-time lead..

Speedy Hull scrum half beat three defenders for a converted try to restore his side;s lead at 17-14, with Stephens' boot levelling the balance the Kendal pack began to dominate in the last 15 minutes and a pushover try was finished off by Mark Wilson for 22-17.

Hull's threatening threes still threatened to turn the match, but Stephens' boot relieved the pressure with five minutes to go when the visitors were penalised for holding on after a tackle.
