AN application to serve alcohol by Kirkby Lonsdale football club, has been applied for, however ten residents have written to the council to complain.

The club applied to South Lakeland District Council (SLDC), for the club to be award a premises certificate, which would allow them to sell alcohol and stage entertainment events.

The club which is located on Lunefield Park, Kirkby Lonsdale, says on their official web pages that: "The club classes as an amateur football club, playing in the North Lancs League and won the division two league title in 2019."

Letters of complaint, which SLDC will now consider include concerns around: "People roaming around an unlit field late at night, with possibilities of trespassing onto private properties and alcohol intake leading to rowdy behaviour." The application from the club to SLDC says: "The application seeks permission to play recorded music on a Saturday from 14.00 hours to 22.00 hours.

One resident complained saying that: "15 properties would be adversely affected by noise and late-night vehicle movements."

Another resident said: " This would disturb the quiet riverside location to the detriment of both locals and visitors enjoying the peaceful river side walk."

A further letter of objection said: "Cars coming to this spot, are driven and reversed very fast around the river bank with no real regard for the mixed-use area and the number of kids and dogs using this rural path.

SLDC's conditions relating to noise nuisance suggests that: "This might be achieved by a 'simple measure,' such as ensuring doors and windows are kept closed after a particular time, and people not being permitted to go into the garden areas after a certain time."

More sophisticated measures like the installation of acoustic curtains are also suggested and rubber speaker mounts to stop sound escaping from the clubhouse, could also be considered.

A spokesperson for Kirkby Lonsdale Football Club said: "They didn't want to comment at this time ahead of the application going to the planning committee."

SLDC will hear the application at its next licensing subcommittee on July 6.
