KENDAL Rugby Club have promotion to National League Three almost within their grasp and will be out to strengthen their claim with their last but one home match Saturday.

On paper, Kendal, unbeaten in 18 matches, should have little problem disposing of the bottom North Division One side Penrith - except for the fact that local derbies can throw up unexpected results. The east of the county side, which still contains many former Kendal players, will be exceptionally keen to put one over on the Mint Bridge side and silence what is expected to be a bumper crowd. Kick-off is at 2pm.

ON THE football front, Kendal Town are in action twice this week in their bid to stay clear of the UniBond League Premier Division relegation zone. First up is a home match with Ilkeston Town Saturda. Kick-off is at 3pm at the Lakeland Radio Stadium, Parkside Road.

On Tuesday Lee Ashcroft's side is on the road again for a 7.45pm kick-off at Matlock Town.

KENDAL Women's hockey side lost top spot in North Division Two West when they were beaten by Northern 1st last weekend, but will be continuing their title challenge when they entertain Manchester University 1st, at Cinder Ovens field, Kendal, Saturday.
