SEVENTEEN-year-old Jenny Mashiter has been selected to ski at the World Junior Championships - one of only three female skiers in the UK to do so.

Jenny, from Carr Bank, near Milnthorpe, will compete in the slalom and giant slalom at the championships in Formigal, Spain.

She has been racing and training in Austria this season with the GB Development Team and has been selected to race at the 'Worlds' for her performances both in racing and training this season.

Jenny now attends the Skihandelschule, in Schladming, Austria, after gaining a place at the prestigious school in August 2007 following rigorous fitness and ski tests in the entry procedure.

Only one other woman from the UK has attended Schladming and that was Emma Carrick-Anderson, the former Olympic skier from Scotland.

Jenny undertakes all her education in German and teachers and coaches alike have praised her professionalism and how she has knuckled down to learning in a foreign language.

She receives support from Mastco, Sedbergh, who provide her with her all-important Volkl skis. Anything Technical supplies her ski boots and Falke her thermals and fitness clothing.

At the end of March Jenny will be competing in the British Champion-ships in Meribel, France, which will be shown on Channel 4 TV.
