Kendal 12, Penrith 7.

A try four minutes from full time kept Kendal's unbeaten record intact, but it was scarcely deserved after an error strewn performance against a side struggling for North Division One survival and one man short for three-quarters of the match.

Penrith lost scrum half Ed Swale after 20 minutes, deservedly red-carded for throwing a punch after making a tackle, but they dominated the first half and it was no surprise when fly-half Paul Newton cut through the Kendal defence in the 40th minute to score close to the posts and give Gavin Young an easy conversion.

In first-half injury time a rare Kendal excursion into the Penrith 22 brought some relief when the forwards took the ball on towards the line and scrum half James Gough scampered off the back to touch down wide out right for an unconverted try.

Despite the man advantage the atrocious conditions made the ball almost impossible to hold in the second half and, coupled with some poor kicking for position, this keenly contested local derby looked set to go Penrith's way.

Then, in the 76th minute captain Ian Voortman fed outside centre John Ladell who charged towards the cover, cut back inside brilliantly then fed winger Mat Gracie who ran in under the posts.

Fly-half Hoani Moore added the conversion for a somewhat unlikely 12-7 win, Kendal's 19th successive victory this term.
