CARTMEL Races has announced details of its 2023 season with the return of May Bank Holiday racing and an exciting ABBA-inspired night of summer music.

Super troupers Björn Again will hit the stage at Cartmel Racecourse for what promises to be a joyous night in June.

This year racing will be back in full swing and the May Bank Holiday weekend will be once again one of the highlights of the season at the stunning Cumbrian course in the south Lakes.

The racing season starts on Saturday May 27 followed by meetings on May 29 and 31 and tickets are already on sale.

It’s not just the racing that’s back - there will be a plethora of fun-filled days with a carnival atmosphere providing plenty of dates for families to come and enjoy.

Families and people of all ages can enjoy the fun fair, grab a picnic or even have a barbecue.

Racecourse director Geraldine McKay said: “We’re really excited to be welcoming back racegoers for our 2023 season.

“Cartmel really is a course like no other, partly thanks to our beautiful location, but also because of the welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that our visitors help create.

“As usual we’ve got a host of delicious food and drink options, trade stalls and the funfair, all of which make for a fantastic day out for families.”

Following concerts by David Gray and Ricky Wilson last year, renowned act Björn Again will be performing some of ABBA’s biggest hits on Friday, June 30.

It will be a night to sing along to your favourite ABBA songs and boogie. Racegoers are also being encouraged to dress up for the occasion and help Bjorn Again crank up the party atmosphere as they perform the Swedes' classic hits.

Almost half of the people who head to Cartmel do so as part of a holiday and stay in a motorhome or caravan; however spaces are already sold out for the whole season.

Gates will open at 9am on all race days and, for those who are not bringing their own picnic, the Louis Roederer Restaurant will open at 11.30am.
