Due to popular demand, a boxercise instructor has been forced to search for a new venue to accommodate additional sessions.

Kimberly James, who has been teaching a boxercise class in Ulverston since November 2023, has seen a ‘lot of interest’ in her weekly meets.

The qualified instructor said she had a lot of interest for a later session but found it really tough to find a suitable venue in Ulverston that would be available.

Kimberly said: “We have a lot of community clubs already on but there’s a lot of interest in boxing for fitness, it’ll tone you up and trim you down. It’s also good for helping with mental health.

After a long search, Kimberly is able to start hosting a second, later class Wednesday at 7pm at a new venue at Scales Village Hall.

These will run as well as the usual, hour long class at 5:15pm, every Wednesday at Croftlands Community Centre.

These ‘high energy’ boxercise classes include working with a pad, circuit training, as well as cardio and resistance work outs, all the equipment is provided, from gloves to skipping ropes.

They are well attended by a variety of people and ages, Kimberly welcomes all abilities, men or women and always encourages parents to bring along their teens for a work out.

Kimberly said: “I’ve had a love for boxing for over three years now and just love seeing how much enjoyment and energy comes from my clients each week.

“I’m extending my audience to make it more accessible for people later in the day, but it would be great to add another class. I’ve got people who want me to host sessions in Dalton and Barrow, so it’s just finding the premises!”

Kimberly is also hoping to set up a boxercise class for children and young people, she said: “I’m qualified, it’s just finding somewhere to set up. Ideally, I’d love to find somewhere free for the children, to build up a fitter, healthier community.”
