CUMBRIA County Rugby lost against Northumberland in the Bill Beaumont County Championship.
It is the first loss of the campaign for Cumbria, having run out 52-26 winners against Durham previously.
Cumbria started fast in Penrith, as a well-worked move saw centre Peter Weightman break through multiple tackles.
Fly half Flynn Maniera then beat several opponents to put winger Dan Shorrock over for the first try of the game.
Sadly, that was to be the high point of the afternoon for Cumbria as Northumberland took control of the match thereafter.
Northumberland went into the break with a 19-8 lead with Cumbria coming close to a score before half time.
Cumbria again started the second half brightly with two penalties kicked by replacement Ryan Scott.
However, this was not enough to change the course of the game as Northumberland seized the momentum with a penalty soon after Cumbria scored.
The rest of the match was all Northumberland, with the game finishing 48-14 to Northumberland.
There were several debutants for Cumbria, with Shane Cusack (Aspatria RFC), Patrick Wolstenholme (Kendal RFC), Lewis Davis (Keswick RFC), Ben Lawson (Kirkby Londsdale RFC), Jack Tunnicliffe (Penrith) and Jake Stewart (Kirkby Lonsdale) all appearing for the county for the first time.
Alex Briggs (Kirkby Lonsdale) and Ben O’Halloran (Kendal) both received their Cumbria caps after five appearances for the county.
Front rowers Arran Sullivan (Aspatria RFC) and Tom Graham (Carlisle) both received milestones for playing at least 25 times for Cumbria.
The result means that Cumbria sit second in their pool with five points ahead of their clash this weekend with third-placed Cheshire, who beat Durham 51-28.
The game will be played in Cheshire on Saturday, May 23 with kick off at 3pm.
