BARROW AFC manager Adam Murray admits he’s happy to see both the good and the bad during the pre-season campaign.

The Bluebirds boss is looking to take the positives over the 2-0 win over Workington AFC at the weekend.

But he also feels that lessons learned from errors during the game can be beneficial.

He told the club’s official YouTube channel: “(The Workington game) was a really good workout for us.

“The boys had a really tough week with us being away, there's been some real gruelling, physical work for them, and we wanted to go into the game a little bit fatigued.

“I felt especially first half, I thought it was a little bit lethargic, obviously the heat didn't help, but that's where we want the players at the minute, we want them in a state of fatigue mentally and physically to really test them.

“But overall, I'm really pleased. I think we’ve seen a lot of good things that we’ve been working on and looking at, but we’ve also seen a lot of things that we need to work on and improve, and that's what you want to improve season.

“Especially early on, we need mistakes to happen.

“We need areas to be to be highlighted so we can go away in and analyse them and come back and fix the solutions, and the players get to understanding what is expected of them.

“So overall, really, really happy.

“We expect a little bit of rustiness, we expect a little bit of disjointedness.

“We want mistakes at this point, because that’s the way we learn.

“We expect there to be a lethargic tiredness to the games because of the work we are doing, but there was a lot that we’ve seen that we’ve been working on that was coming out.

“Lots of good stuff, but like I say lots of things we can improve on which is good.”

Murray opted to give the squad and his backroom team time to refresh over the past couple of days before more hard work on the training ground.

He added: “It’s been a tough week, and I think mentally and physically, not just the players, but I think the staff as well are absolutely shattered.

“We will take a couple of days to refresh and look back at that game, but then we are looking forward to another good week.”
