Morecambe football club has announced today that they are to sell their Stadium to leading food store Sainsburys.
The deal that has been heralded by the club will pave the way for work on the Shrimp’s new stadium to begin.
Sainsburys will apply for planning permission to build a supermarket on the Christie Park site, creating hundreds of new jobs in the town.
The deal will see Christie Park handed over to the food chain in July 2010, with Morecambe’s new Westgate Stadium being built in time for the 2010/11 season.
Following today’s announcement work on the new Stadium is set to begin this Spring.
