A WARREN Beattie strike and a David Newnes penalty save were key moments as Kendal Town fought out a pulsating second half against Bradford Park Avenue and earned a 1-1 draw for their trouble.

A crowd of 306 attended Parkside to see Lee Ashcroft's side keep their unbeaten start - albeit it with their second successive draw - and they saw Town go behind to a self-inflicted bow in the 38th minute.

Walmsley's poor back-pass left keeper Newnes scrambling across goal and the ball rebounded off the post for Chris Hall to tap in.

Ashcroft reverted to a 4-4-2 formation when Dave Foster came off with a hamstring injury to be replaced by Michael Cole, and they looked more effective.

After Glen Steel headed Hall's goalbound header on to the bar and away, Town levelled the scores through Beattie's well-placed shot into the corner from Cole's lay-back from a crowded golamouth.

Two minutes later Melling was adjudged to have felled Park Avenue skipper Simon Baldry in the box but Newnes made a diving save from Stephen Downes' spot kick.

Both sides went all out for the win and had chances to snatch a second goal.

Aiden Savoury blazed over a tantalising chance for Park Avenue, while Alex Taylor was put clear but could not beat Dickinson, who hurried him into his shot.
