KENDAL Judo Club's Michael Horley has been selected as a British team member for the prestigious GB World Cup event to be held in Birmingham's National Indoor Arena in September.
The event will be the biggest judo World Cup ever held in the country.
The GB World Cup forms part of the new world ranking system, announced by the International Judo Federation (IJF), which started on January 1 and contributes to 2012 Olympic qualification and each individual’s world standing.
The circuit features four Grand Slams (Paris, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo), five Grand Prix (Hamburg, Tunis, United States of America, Beijing and Abu Dhabi) and 17 World Cups, including the GB World Cup, plus the Masters to be held in Seoul this year Despite being the hosts for this round of the championship series, Britain is only allowed to enter four players in a weight category and Michael has been selected as one of the four the Under-90 kilo group.
