ORIENTEERS from Ulverston maintained their top form as they were crowned top school for the 15th consecutive year.

On a tricky course near Amble, Northumberland, the Ulverston Victoria High School pupils had to contest sand dunes, scattered woodland and their opponents to take the British Schools Orienteering Championships, but did so in style - with a 17 point margin over nearest rivals Kenilworth School and Sports College.

Runners had to concentrate hard and read their maps carefully to not get mixed up with different sections of woodland and there were some good, but testing technical areas in small valleys and hills at Druridge Bay Country Park.

There were some exceptional individual performances with five Ulverston pupils claiming podium finishes while Hannah Cleary-Hughes and Natalie Beadle, both from Backbarrow, won their age group races.

Ulverston’s dominance came to fruition in the team trophies, collecting nine top placings and four runner-up spots.
