CUMBRIAN figure skater David King made his Olympic debut this morning, Monday, and lies in 16th place at the halfway stage of the pairs event in Vancouver.

King, 25, from Curthwaite, near Carlisle, and his partner Stacey Kemp, of Leyland, near Preston, were just outside their personal best in the short programme as they danced to Linkin Park's Numb.

A couple of small errors landed King and Kemp with a score of 48.28, but with the free skate coming in the early hours of tomorrow morning, Tuesday, they will be aiming to move up the leaderboard.

King, who went to school in Wigton, has been the reigning British champion with Kemp since 2006, and the duo are ranked 13th in the world.

The competition though has been dominated by the Chinese skaters, who are placed first, fourth and fifth.
