AFTER an improved performance in the figure skating pairs' free programme, Cumbrian skater David King is expected to finish 16th in Vancouver.

Along with partner Stacey Kemp, of Leyland near Preston, King, 25, from Curthwaite, finished 16th after the first part of their Olympic short programme.

And with some stunning twists and floated moves, the duo scored a season's best 91.66 points to move into a temporary lead.

After the first two groups had skated the Brits lay in fourth position, but with the top 12 competitors, including the Russians and Chinese, still to compete, the best King/Kemp can aim for is 16th.

The duo can take positives from their appearance though as they performed well and gained Olympic experience during the two-day event on the world's largest stage.

King, who went to school in Wigton, has been the reigning British champion with Kemp since 2006, and the duo are ranked 13th in the world.
