KENDAL amateur boxer Reece Johnson was bloodied but unbowed as he pounded out a points win in his latest bout.

Reece was awarded a unanimous verdict after a tough clash with Thomas Sharp from Morecambe in a bout refereed by top amateur boxing official and Mayor of Kendal, Alvin Finch.

Reece was aggressive throughout and tough enough to overcome some clean shots from Sharp, which left his nose bloodied by the final bell.

But the Kendal youngster scored solidly himself and was delighted to be adjudged the winner after three two-minute rounds.

In other results on Saturday night’s show at Red Rose Community Centre in Morecambe, home fighter Troy Gallagher emerged as a points victor in the best bout of the night.

The tough and well-schooled Gallagher, who boxes for the show’s hosts Coastal Amateur Boxing Club, was on the front foot throughout against the game and skilled Leon Wilks from Title Shot Amateur Boxing Club.

Gallagher was given the nod after three three-minute rounds of thrilling combat which had the crowd on its feet.

William Mitchell of Morecambe stopped Charlie Richardson of Horwich in the first round of their battle.

There were also a number of ‘skills’ bouts on the card, where the judges were not scoring.

These involved Coastal’s Joshua Sharp, Matthew Sharp, John Burke and Daniel Doherty.

In other results from the show, Lewis Birchwood of Willaston earned a split decision win over Ellis McAuley.

Maison Shaw beat Taylor Winter by unanimous decision.

Conor Dixon from Horwich was a unanimous points winner over Bradley Haslam.

And Jordan Crook from Chorley scored a unanimous points win over Zak Gibbons of the People’s Gym. All bouts were refereed by Alvin Finch.

Coastal Amateur Boxing Club is located on West End Road in Morecambe and run by ex-professional fighter and trainer Frank Harrington.

WBC International Featherweight Champion Isaac Lowe, training partner of WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury, attended the show.
