Well the end of the week is here and Kendal go into another relegation six pointer on Saturday this time at home to Ilkeston Town.

This Unibond League Premier Division has to be the most unpredictable league ever. To think any one of the bottom 3 all the way up to 8th place can go down is unbelievable. The league’s usually split into different leagues, where you have your top 6 to 8, a middle bunch and the bottom 4 or 5 and its always been a case of making sure you finish top or near to top of your mini leagues. But this time you can win a game and you are in the top 10 and at the same time you can lose a game and be in the bottom 6.

I think the reasoning behind this is just because of how close the teams are in levels of ability.

But unpredictability aside Kendal know that they must do a job against Ilkeston on Saturday who are a place higher but on the same number of points than us. Last time we played Ilkeston was a few months ago and we won 3-2 without our goalkeeper, and I know for a fact that their fans are restless and getting on the back of the manager a lot. Despite beating Matlock last weekend they didn’t play well. I also understand that their goalkeeper’s a bit dodgy, so with all these facts in mind Kendal must take advantage of this. If Kendal can score early then I expect the team to get a few more goals.

I would say our biggest problem has been taking chances and if there’s one area that needs to be worked on the most it is taking those chances.

The main frustration for me as a fan has been that they are in a false position, you look at the teams above us like Ossett Town, Prescot Cables, Matlock Town and even Hednesford Town, there is no way they are better than us, you look at the form of all those sides including Kendal and there isn’t much difference if any with them all. But it’s a results business I guess so you are where you are in the league for a reason.

I am hoping that Gareth Arnison and Paul Fildes can get on the sheet this weekend, there goals would come in handy.

Other news:

New signings:

Kendal are close to signing a defender, as yet no more information has been released except the manager has said he will be one of the best defenders in the league. The boss is also actively looking to make long term signings, so watch this space for that.

Reserves:

Kendal Town’s reserves lost 4-2 at home to Workington on Monday night, Workington went 2-0 up early doors in that 1st half, before Kendal fought back grabbing 2 in a few minutes, 1st through I think Lewis Wilkes and the equaliser (eventually) through Craig Hobson, the ball took an age to go in the net for the equaliser. Anyhow before half time a double blow for Kendal, we go 3-2 down again and Craig Hobson got injured with eye problems (he’s okay now though).

2nd half, Kendal were down to 10 men early on in that half when Goalkeeper Thomas Bush was shown a straight red for handling just outside the box, probably the right decision by the referee.

The reserve manager went in goal and did okay, Kendal did have a chance probably their best of the 2nd half to level but just scuffed the shot. However, Workington weren’t to be denied and grabbed a 4th to seal the game.

It was a good match for a Monday night, Workington are a good team but Kendal showed promise.

Thursday’s home match with Barrow was postponed (which I half expected), next game is scheduled to be home to Leigh RMI on Monday night, 7.45pm kick off.

Final thoughts.

Hopefully by Monday I will be reporting on a Kendal win, also look out for my brief preview on next Tuesday night’s away trip to Matlock Town.

Hope you have a good weekend.
