Hello, there were a few crucial games in The Westmorland League at the weekend and a few which were postponed as well.

Unfortunately my planned visit to Ibis vs Burneside didn’t go ahead as that was one of the postponed matches. Anyhow here’s a review of what happened in each division of the Westmorland League:

Division 1

Overall there were only 3 games that went ahead in this division, but the games that did go ahead were important games. Kendal County continued there good form with a comfortable 5-1 win at Lunesdale UTD. Meanwhile the top of the table clash between Wetheriggs UTD and Appleby ended in a 1-0 win for Appleby, a tight game which shows that there’s not much difference between the sides.

And Conistion won 1-0 at home to Carvetti Utd, These results leave Kendal County and Appleby joint top on 27 points however Kendal have the better record of the 2 at the moment. Meanwhile Ambelside and Wetheriggs do have games in hand, but with Wetheriggs losing you would fancy Ambleside Utd to be the ones that could run the top 2 close. Ambleside didn’t play at the weekend due to a waterlogged pitch so no progress was made from them on Saturday.

Division 2

There were only 2 matches that went ahead in this division, Leaders Kirkoswald continued their dominance of the division with a 6-3 win away at Keswick’s reserves. Meanwhile Windermere’s reserve team got the better of Wetherigg United’s reserve team in this mid table battle with a 2-1 win at home.

These results leave Kirkoswald top on 39 points, 7 points clear Staveley united, however Staveley do have 2 games in hand.

The Windermere SC reserve home win over Wetheriggs Utd’s reserves draws them level on 11 points with Wetheriggs in mid table.

Division 3

Ambleside Utd’s reserve match was called off, however Kendal United couldn’t capitalise on Ambelside’s postponement when they only managed to draw 3-3 with Penrith Rangers. However Utd are still in the running for top spot as they have 3 games in hand over the leaders. I am trying to get full details of Kendal Utd’s game on Saturday, will post more details if and when I get them.

Meanwhile Appleby’s reserves managed to close the gap on Ambleside after a 2-1 win against Burneside’s reserve team.

Other results

Wetheriggs Utd A 4 vs Shap reserves 2

Ullswater Utd 2 vs Endmoor KGR 3

These results mean that Appleby close the gap on Ambleside to 5 points, however Ambleside do have 2 games in hand. Meanwhile Kendal Utd close gap on 2nd place to 2 points and are 7 points adrift of Ambleside but Utd do have 3 games in hand on the leaders. There’s still a lot to play for in this division.

Division 4.

Leaders Kirkby Thore suffered a surprise 3-1 home defeat by 7th placed Braithwaite, whilst Langwathaby capitalised on Kirkby Thore’s slip up with a 5-0 home win over Esthwaite Vale. Staveley Utd’s reserve team also ran out comfortable 5-1 home winners over 2nd from bottom Coniston.

These results leave Kirkby Thore top on 29 points one point clear of Langwathaby. However anyone from 5th maybe even 6th could still win this division. It’s a very exciting and close league at the moment.

Check back on Thursday for my look ahead to Saturday’s Westmorland League fixtures, I may have more details of Kendal Utd’ s 3-3 draw with Penrith Rangers as well by Thursday.

Hope you enjoy your week
