There were exciting matches in The Westmorland League on Saturday, most teams have something to play for which makes the matches even better.
Here’s a division by division rundown on what happened:
Division 1:
I always start by talking about Kendal County and yet again they dominate the division after a 5-0 win at Windermere S.C at the weekend. They seem unstoppable at this moment in time, at the moment it’s a safe bet that County will win the division again, I guess you never know but County hold the advantage right now. They are now 7 clear of 2nd and 8 clear of 3rd.
There’s a few other teams in the division who have games in hand so maybe one of them could catch County but it would take a brave man to say that.
Other results:
Appleby drew 1-1 at Keswick in the match of the division, the result doesn’t do either side’s chances of catching the leaders any good.
Lunesdale Utd lost 3-0 at home to Coniston, and Burneside picked up an important 3 points with a 2-1 home win over Greystoke.
These results leave County top 6 clear of 2nd place, meanwhile at the bottom Burneside have pulled away from rock bottom position which Ibis still hold.
Division 2:
Kendal Celtic won 2-1 at Kirkoswald which would be a surprise to some, but I always felt this was going to be a top game,
In the Mason and Freeman Cup 2nd round Staveley Utd won 2-1 at Shap in another one of the attractive matches of the weekend.
Kirkoswald losing still leaves them 3 clear of 2nd spot however time will tell whether or not that result will be a costly one for Kirkoswald.
Division 3:
Ambleside’s reserves won 6-3 at home to Burneside at the weekend, that result leaves them 3 clear of 2nd.
Endmoor KGR kept up the pressure at the top with a 3-0 win at Penrith’s reserves, meanwhile Carvetti’s reserves beat Lunesdale Utd’s reserves 3-2.
These results leave Ambleside Utd’s reserves 3 clear at the top, however both Appleby reserves and Endmoor are in the chasing pack.
Division 4:
Langwathaby Utd are the new leaders of the division after a narrow 2-1 win at Milnthorpe, goals by Rob Whitton on the 25th minute and a free kick by Carl Honer on the 30th minute.
Meanwhile Braithwaite kept the pressure up at the top with a 4-0 win at Coniston’s reserves, and Greystoke’s reserves claimed a 2-0 home win over Dent’s reserves.
In The Austin Wren cup 2nd round Burneside’s A side claimed 4-1 home success over Esthwaite Vale.
That’s a run down of the weekend’s action, look out for more info during the week on The Westmorland League.
Hope you enjoy your week.
