Last Saturday I saw Kendal Utd’s opening home match against Wetherigg Utd’s reserve side, it was a game in which Kendal Utd should have won especially with the chances they spurned in the 1st half. However take nothing away from Wetheriggs Reserves as they themselves played a good match, and their 3rd goal to make it 3-1 was a top draw finish. From Kendal Utd’s point of view though I think their were a lot of promising signs from the match, every team is bound to be rusty especially on the opening day, but with the league being such a long campaign, I am sure Kendal will get better and be in the promotion mix.

Wetheriggs will have a good season looking at their performance; I will be interested to see how they build on the opening day With that match out of the way I went back down to Kendal Utd’s pitch on Tuesday night too see them play Windermere for what was the visitors 1st match of the season. I only saw the 1st half and a little bit of the 2nd, and this match was different from Saturdays, Windermere were defending well and put some good football together at times, Kendal were a bit sluggish in the 1st half, but they were gradually improving. Anyhow the match ended 1-1, but the encounter will probably be most remembered for some dubious officiating. I don’t really want to launch any kind of attack on the referee as they have a very tough job too do, and it’s good that they come out on a Tuesday night to officiate a Westmorland League match but at the same time common sense in some cases needs to be used.

I have the weekend off the Westmorland League, however my next match will be next Tuesday when I see Kendal Celtics home match with Westmorland League Division 1, champions Ambleside Utd.
