NEWLY-crowned road rally champion Terry Martin takes to the stages this weekend when he contests the Pendragon Stages.

But the Blackburn driver will be sitting on the wrong side of the car on Sunday, after being enlisted to navigate for Yorkshireman David Stubbs.

The pair, who are both members of Clitheroe and district motor club, are using the all-tarmac event as a 'shakedown' for October's Tour of Mull Rally.

"We won't be taking any risks. The idea is just to make sure the car and our pacenotes are working properly, we'll be happy with a top thirty finish," said David, who runs his own garage, David Stubbs Motors in Settle.

"Unlike many drivers, Terry's pretty good in the passenger seat. He's very organised and can give me a few tips if he thinks I'm not going fast enough!"

Although he doesn't contest championships, preferring to compete on selected events, Stubbs has picked up some notable results this year, including fifth overall and a class win on the Jack Neal Memorial Rally and 11th overall on the Tyneside Stages.

Sponsorship for the event comes from David Stubbs Motors, Settle, Stainforth Private Hire, Settle Chimney Sweeps, Fleet Painting of Skipton and Fascadail Bed and Breakfast, Salen, Isle of Mull.
