Kendal's Director of Rugby Chris Hayton gives his weekly view of events from Mint Bridge.

WHEN Goughie scored the third try on Saturday it was all over as a contest, but Broadstreet then dug in and the game went downhill as a spectacle.

It was a pity because the crowd had for once a beautiful day and, after the storms of the last week, it would have been good to play some sunshine rugby.

Broadstreet had a limited plan for the long trip to Mint Bridge: keep things tight and make us work hard to score.

The second half saw how frustrating it could have been!

No-one in this league lies down and you have to keep working the openings and creating the chances.

Looking aheadto this Saturday, Waterloo on paper looks a sure win. But they say you don’t trip over mountains you trip over pebbles.

The proud Blundellsands team might be down on their uppers at the moment, but most of us will remember when a trip to Crosbie would have meant we were playing cup rugby and had drawn a side from the leagues above.

Not so now but Waterloo can still play and they score tries in every match they play.

They have scored only 25 points fewer than ourselves, having racked up 31 points against Fylde and 37 against Bradford and Bingley.

They know how to attack. Fly-half Liam Reeve and centre James O Brien can work openings, but their defensive record should mean we can score as well – on paper.

Rob Aloe is injured, (leg), so Ben Robinson comes back in with Matt Gracie back on the bench so our team is still strong.

Can we stop them scoring and make the “trip” productive?
