IT was a battle at Waterloo for Kendal in their National League 2 North match as they hung on tenaciously for an 18-12 victory in an error-strewn match.
An unconverted Carl Nolan touchdown put the hosts ahead but the Black and Ambers were to turn round 18-5 up by half time.
It was a story of three yellow cards before the break for Waterloo, and Kendal took advantage.
An Ian Voortman try went unconverted but Mark Ireland added a 40-metre penalty for an 8-5 lead with another following before the break
Then as the yellows were brandished to ill-disciplined Waterloo, a Mike Scott chip put Ian McDowell away on a charge before he put in John Ladell to finish off, Ireland tacking on the extras.
In the second half, Waterloo stormed back but Kendal defended stoutly although a try by James O'Brien which Liam Reeves converted closed the gap to six points.
A try-save tackle close to the end from Chris Park saved the day as Kendal showed grit to emerge with the win.
