SMALL moments in games have a big impact on the result as can be seen from the Six Nations matches so far, and one small moment on Saturday between Kendal and Harrogate became massive.

At 15-6 down we had a period hammering at their line and from one attack which looked likely to give us the score Ben Sowery, their flanker, managed to pinch the ball and they put together a field-length attack for a great try and a 22-6 which turned out to be decisive.

This week’s visitors, the table-topping, talent packed Loughborough Students, deserve to be where they are, having amassed 625 points for with only a miserly 253 against.

As one of the country’s premier sports universities, they benefit from a squad of 120-plus wannabe iron men and the conveyor belt of the Loughborough strength and conditioning factory duly beefs them up and sends them out on field trial in their first team.

However, this team of cyber-men is full of talent as well. George Drake, the general at fly-half, and Phil Burgess, play-maker and pack leader at No8, will be prominent, but Nathan Lambden has scored 12 tries from centre so far.

In previous seasons their pack although mobile could be dominated in the darker arts of tight play, but they have acquired some steel particularly with Camilo Parilli at tight head.

They completed a notable double over the bulky Hull side who have been grinding other packs. Possession will be our weapon and concentration in the small moments.
