KENDAL’S Head Coach Jon Nicholson admits the club is facing “a dogfight” to stay in National 2 North.

In Saturday’s programme for the postponed home match against Lough-borough Students, Nicholson called on everyone associated with the club to look for the positives.

He wrote: “Right now Kendal Rugby Club is in a fight for its league status - a real dogfight.

“A fight which we would all prefer had we the choice to be happening at the other end of the table.

“But it’s not. We must stand together and look forward. What has happened cannot be changed.

“It’s a challenge to us all, of our character and nerve.”

He added: “We have to ensure that something is earned from every single encounter, but also realise that when we do work collectively we are good enough to come away with something positive.

“That positive something could be new-found respect for team-mate, belief in our style of play or even a single bonus-point like last week (referring to the 20-15 defeat at Westoe).

“Small reward under normal circumstances but very significant in our present situation in that it moved us out of the relegation zone.”

Kendal’s back-row forward Joe Robinson has been called for a North of England Under-20 training session on Sunday after being selected for the squad.

And South African back Kyle Peyper has returned home after failing to hold down a First XV spot.

Meanwhile, it was revealed Kendal is predicted to make a £6.5k loss at the year end.

Finance director Mike Miller reported to the Board that the December figures, including two postpone-ments were not as bad as expected with approximately £500 less income than budgeted for.

Mr Miller was hopeful that the club would break even as sponsorship for the rest of the season had improved.

Kendal chairman Dr Stephen Green has spoken to developers Morebaine Ltd about the relocation proposal, the latest News from the Board reveals.

A traffic survey has been completed and an air quality report is awaited before hoping to force a planning committee meeting before early March.

Company Secretary Fraser Rae commented: “Basically, we are no further forward a year after the second planning application.

“Members expressed their frustration and discussed long-term issue with the fabric of the Mint Bridge building/roof/changing-rooms, etc deteriorating.”

n The club is making the Six Nations Tournament a special occasion, starting with Friday’s match between Wales and England shown on the big screen and meals available.
