THERE'LL be tears before bedtime when grieving Handy Andy spots a photograph of himself and his late wife Katie at their old school in Emmerdale (ITV1). He's not been handling Katie's death well. He's been moody, sullen and making a move on anything female with a pulse (which could have had awful repercussions if he'd gone for the village's four-legged population).

He tried it on with old flame Bernice, but has settled down with Toxic Tracy (why are people called Tracy in Soapland so conniving?). Mind you, her reason for moving in with him had more to do with being homeless, than a desire to share Andy's duvet.

Now the pair are off to see Andy's daughter in her school play. Whoops! He spots an old photo of him and Katie in happier days. The poor luv falls to pieces and Tracy, for once summing up the situation correctly, realises that she's being used and leaves him. A daring move, you might say, for someone who has slept under almost every roof (and shared quite a few beds) in Emmerdale and worn out her welcome.

Bernice rallies round to help Andy as he finally come to his senses. But is it a good idea to move into the Woolpack under the same roof as Aaron, who is hiding the truth about Katie's death as well as his on-off affair with newlywed Robert (Andy's brother, in case you're wondering)?

Troublesome teen Lachlan continues to be... well, troublesome. He's not been charged with sexually assaulting Alicia, but returns from holiday to continue to make trouble for her and husband David. So much so that David bundles him into his car and takes the lad to a barn to sort him out. Lachlan's taunting attitude causes David to snap faster than a fat person's knicker elastic and before you can say "guilty as charged" David and Alicia could be facing prison sentences.

In EastEnders (BBC1), Stan is determined not to take having terminal cancer lying down. Although that's the position in which he finds himself when he loses all feeling in his legs. He's rushed to hospital, but not before deciding to ask Cora to marry him. This doesn't go down well with his sister-in-law, Aunt Babe, who has issues with Stan. Having lost one husband to cancer, Cora wonders if she wants to go through it all again.

Happier times for Tina and Sonia, who finally get up close and personal in the middle of Albert Square. They have locked lips before, but that doesn't count. Sonia was still married to Martin and Tina was with her abusive girlfriend Tosh. Now they're single and available, although Sonia wants to keep their relationship under wraps (and the bedcovers) for the time being.

Kevin and Jenny's romance comes under scrutiny in Coronation Street (ITV1) over a child-minding crisis. Daughter Sophie isn't happy when Kevin leaves son Jack in the care of his new girlfriend, after his regular childminder lets him down. But Rita, no fan of former adopted daughter Jenny, tells Sophie it's her dad's choice who he gets to babysit.

But an episode with a shallot makes Sophie wonder about Jenny's state of mind. Jenny goes berserk when Jack grabs a shallot off a dinner plate. Not because he's already had his five of the day, but because she fears he'll choke and it will all be her fault. But clearly there's something wrong and a shallot was the trigger So it's not a case of "aye, aye, that's shallot" as Jimmy Wheeler (ask your gran who he was) used to say.
