Low Sizergh Barn 'incredible' farm shop is a hit with visitors

We’re spoiled for choice in the Lake District, but we wanted to highlight the best-rated farm shop in our area, with over 2,700 Google reviews from passing visitors and loyal customers alike.

Low Sizergh Barn Farm Shop and Café sits four miles south of Kendal on a tenant farm that has been on the site since the 13th century.

Run by the Park family for three generations, the business employs more than 50 local people, with the shop providing a market place for over 80 local suppliers.

The farm shop has an overall 4.5 star rating, with visitors praising the menu, the fresh produce and the generous portion sizes.

(Image: Low Sizergh Barn) One reviewer said: “We stopped to grab coffees while our toddler napped in the car, and ended up spending half the day there! What an incredible place. It was a lovely way to spend the day, and we’ve already recommended it to fellow visitors.”

A particular highlight among all reviewers was the opportunity to buy organic raw milk sold from a vending machine in front of the farm shop. The 170-strong cattle herd can be seen during afternoon milking around 3.30pm every afternoon through the windows of the café.

Whether it’s meat from the farm, honey from the orchard hives, local farm eggs, or handmade sourdough bread, the farm shop tries to support as many producers as possible in the area, from household names to local residents who have grown more fruit, vegetables, herbs or flowers than they need.

Conceived by BigBarn, Crop for the Shop is an initiative that helps local shops like us source even more fresh and seasonal produce by exchanging growers’ crops for a gift card, which can then be redeemed in our farm shop or café.”

The farm shop also works in partnership with Growing Well, a mental health charity helping people to recover from mental health challenges through supported outdoor activities and horticulture on a six-acre organic fruit and vegetable plot on the farm. The produce grown through this scheme is then sold in the shop.

If you’re taking the kids, there’s a free farm trail to explore, taking in two miles of the farm with activity sheets for pre-schoolers available until early September.

The shop is open 9am – 5.30pm while the café opens 9am – 5pm with last hot food orders at 4.30pm.
