A Cumbrian town’s underpass has been given a new look by a local councillor.

Grange-over-Sands Councillor Tricia Thomas rolled up her sleeves to clean up the railway underpass and give it a new lease of life.

While serving as the town Mayor in 2014, Cllr Thomas proposed hiding the boarded up outdoor swimming pool behind a gallery of images showcasing local views past and and present.

The panels were removed last year as work to repair the Lido began and now serve as decoration along the Main Street car park underpass.

A Westmorland and Furness Council spokesman said: “With the necessary permissions from Network Rail, and with help from Community Rail Cumbria and Grange Civic Society, the panels have been re-erected and the badly stained walls of the underpass have been cleaned up. The scrubbing was hard work but we think it looks great."
