More rain this afternoon, drier tomorrow but wet and windy weather returns for the weekend

THE Met Office says another spell of wet weather is expected to move into Cumbria and north west England during this afternoon and evening.

Forecasters say it will become persistent and heavy for a time before clearing away tonight.

Gales are also expected around north west coasts later today.

They say with further heavy rain falling on already saturated ground, the public should be aware of the potential for localised flooding.

Tomorrow is expected to be a 'bright and breezy' day across the north west region with a scattering of showers.

The Met Office expects the best of the drier and brighter weather likely later in the day tomorrow.

The outlook for Friday and Saturday is for it to remain windy with scattered blustery and locally heavy showers, perhaps turning wintry over hills.

Sunday is expected to be wet and windy with more persistent rain and gales.

The fell forecast for the Lake District today and valid until 5am tomorrow (Thursday 2nd) is for a high risk of gales, severe wind chill and hill fog, with a 'medium' risk of heavy rain.
