CUMBRIAN music festival Kendal Calling has been nominated for another prestigious award.

The three-day event has been shortlisted in the NME Awards after being crowned Best Medium Sized Festival in the UK Festival Awards last year.

In 2010 and 2011 it also won Best Small Festival at the Festival Awards.

It is in the small festivals category, which applies to events with an attendance of less than 50,000.

It faces stiff competition from Rockness, Y Not, SWN, Green Man and Festival Number 6.

The winner will be decided by a public vote that closes on February 21.

The victor will be announced at the awards ceremony on February 26 at Brixton’s O2 Academy.

Votes can be cast by visiting nme.com/awards. Kendal Calling started as a two-day music party in Abbott Hall, Kendal, in 2006.

The event went from strength to strength and since 2009 it has been held at Lowther Deer Park, Penrith, where headliners in 2013 included Primal Scream, The Charlatans and Basement Jaxx.

It will be held this year on the weekend of August 1-3.
