The Westmorland Gazette: Drainage improvement work to start on two sections of A590 at Levens and Dalton Drainage improvement work to start on two sections of A590 at Levens and Dalton

TWO drainage improvement projects are to be carried out by the Highways Agency along stretches of the A590 at Levens and Dalton-in-Furness costing £940,000.

In a £690,000 project around Levens, existing kerbs and gulleys along a 1.5 mile section of the dual carriageway between Sampool Bridge and Church Road will be replaced with new combined kerb-drain units in a month-long scheme beginning on Sunday.

The work is due to be completed by March 23 and will be taking place between 7am and 7pm each day using single lane closures to minimise disruption to road users.

And £250,000 of drainage repairs will also be taking place along a mile-long section of the A590 between Dalton and Elliscales. This work, between the roundabout with the A595 and the roundabout with Park Road, is due to begin once a similar project, currently taking place around Ulverston, is completed.

A minimum of one lane in each direction will remain open to drivers during peak periods with temporary traffic signals in place at other times where necessary. The work is expected to take up to six weeks to complete.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: “This work will provide safer and more reliable journeys for people using these sections of the A590 by repairing or upgrading the drainage system, making it more efficient.”
