AROUND 200 people have today taken part in a summit over the future of health services around Morecambe Bay.

Representatives from several healthcare agencies have met at the Castle Green Hotel, as part of the ongoing Better Care Together scheme.

The programme is a partnership between Cumbria and Lancashire North Clinical Commissioning Groups and the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), which runs Westmorland General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital.

GPs, surgeons, nurses, and other staff from all three organisations were joined at the summit by representatives of other agencies, including local authorities and voluntary sector organisations.

The Gazette launched its 'Hands off our Hospital' campaign almost four weeks ago after a pair of consultants revealed services could be lost from Westmorland General Hospital as a result of the Better Care Together review.

A spokesman for UHMBT said attendees were asked to take part in discussions around the ways services could be provided in the future.

However, discussions did not focus on individual hospital sites and no decisions were taken at the summit.
