LAND at Sandside between the Ship Inn and the Kingfisher restaurant is to be flagged up as suitable for development.

Beetham parish councillors agreed to propose that "favourable consideration" be given to developing the site, within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

South Lakeland District Council has asked people to propose any locations in the beauty spot that they believe to be suitable for housing, jobs, community use or open space. The deadline is February 27, and a joint development plan is then to be created with Lancaster City Council.

The area of land highlighted by Beetham Parish Council includes both sides of Quarry Lane, but the proposal is conditional on building a new access road through the existing Travis Perkins site, between the B5282 and Quarry Lane.

Draft wording for the recommendation is to be prepared by parish councillors.
