THE meat company that supplied Lake District lamb to tennis champion Andy Murray's wedding has served another ace.

Udale Speciality Foods, based near Orton and in Morecambe, despatched a van-load of top-quality beef and lamb to London's O2 arena for last week's ATP World Tour Finals.

As world tennis number one Murray beat Serbia's Novak Djokovic in straight sets to lift Sunday's trophy, guests in VIP boxes dined on delicious Cumbrian beef and Lake District lamb for the second year running.

Neil Udale, the company's joint managing director, told the Gazette it was an 'honour' to cater to such prestigious sporting events, which helped to 'lift the profile' of the region's food. Udale has also supplied meat to Wimbledon and the Henley Regatta for the past three years.

Meanwhile in April 2015, when Olympic gold medal winner Andy Murray wed artist Kim Sears in his hometown, Dunblane, French-born Michel Roux Jr and his father Albert prepared a trio of lamb for the couple's wedding menu using 100kg of milk-fed Lake District lamb that they personally requested from Udale.

"I think everything got very good feedback - the food was superb," said Neil.

"We've had a connection for the past ten years," he added of the close working relationship between Udale and Roux father and son, the legendary French-born chefs and restaurateurs. "I've looked after quite a few functions they've worked on."

The reception took place at the five-star Cromlix House Hotel, a restored Perthshire mansion bought by Murray for a reported £1.8 million two years ago.

Udale Speciality Foods was founded in Sedbergh in 1905 by the great-grandfather of Neil and his brother Ian, who jrun the business. The Slacks part of the company, based at Raisbeck, near Orton, supplies bacon and sausage to farm shops across the country, such as Low Sizergh, near Kendal, and Westmorland Services at Tebay.

Overall, the award-winning Morecambe-based company has around 50 staff and its clients include top hotels and restaurants nationwide. www.udale.com
