ENTERPRISING students from The Lakes School proved they have the skills to run events while also raising money for local charities.
As part of their business studies coursework, 21 students from the Sixth Form prepared and managed three separate business events - a disco fever night, an online auction and a film night.
The students organised themselves into three project teams, providing experience and understanding of the issues and problems that occur when organising events of this nature including working as a team.
Financial planning and use of market techniques helped the project teams plan and deliver the events. This included using local information to issue invitations to nearby primary schools for the disco/film night and use of social media for the online auction.
Thanks to the generosity of the Windermere businesses for providing the auction items, and the local community for attendance, the events made a £776 profit.
"The students learned a great deal from the experience, particularly how they could improve future events," said Costas Charalambides, business studies teacher.
"By using this success together with successful completion of their coursework, it will undoubtedly help them to understand the demands businesses face daily."
