GILLIAN DOBSON AVERIL (Gillie) Passed away peacefully at St Mary's Hospice, Ulverston on September 9th after a prolonged illness patiently borne, aged 70. Beloved wife of Andrew (deceased), daughter of "Hat" Hurst, partner of Peter and friend to many both at home and abroad and at St Thomas' Hospital London SE1 where she worked for many years as a Sister. Private Cremation. Donations if desired for St Mary's Hospice. c/o Wrens Funerals Levenside Newby Bridge Ulverston Cumbria LA12 8LZ.

She was a wonderful lady who never said a bad word about anyone. She also had a mischievous sense of humour that would round the corner after a drink or two. She never had an easy life after losing her beloved Andrew in a car accident. She was in the car at the time and sustained heavy injuries herself and was in a coma to wake up to the loss of her husband and was slightly crippled for the rest of her life. In spite of this, or perhaps because of it, she led a very independent life, living in the hills of the Lake District in quiet but peaceful solitude, warmly welcoming anyone that visited her. She was resolutely determined and firm in living the way she wanted. And why not? She will be missed.
